The drain pipe line heater band's normal operation directly affects the refrigeration efficiency and lifespan of the refrigerator. And the drain line heater main function is to prevent the water generated after defrosting from freezing in the drainage pipes, thus avoiding pipe blockages.
If the bottom of the refrigeration or freezing compartment of your freezer is covered with ice, the cooling effect is poor but the compressor is very hot and keeps working, or there is water accumulation inside, it is very likely that the defrosting system is the problem, and the drain pipeline heater band is one of the key suspects to be investigated.

Working Principle
During the operation of modern air-cooled non-freezing refrigerators or freezers, frost will form on the surface of the evaporator. To maintain efficiency, the compressor will periodically pause and the defrost heater will start to work, melting the frost on the evaporator.
The water generated during melting needs to be discharged outside the machine. This water will flow through a drainage hole into the drainage pipe, and eventually into the water collection tray above the compressor. It will naturally evaporate using the heat from the compressor.
However, at the end of the defrosting cycle, the temperature inside the refrigerator is still very low (usually below 0°C). If the melted water flows through the cold drainage pipes, it is very likely to re-freeze into ice, causing the drainage pipes to become completely blocked.
The drain pipeline heater band is a small electric heating wire that is closely attached to the drain pipe (usually wrapped around the outside of the drain pipe). Its power is very low (usually only a few watts to a dozen watts), and it only operates for a short period of time after the defrost cycle is completed. Its sole purpose is to ensure that the inner wall of the drain pipe remains above 0°C, allowing the defrost water to flow out smoothly and preventing ice blockages.
